Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina, September 29, 2007

Another Saturday, another trip to Blacksburg. Since it was our 3rd straight Saturday with a Virginia Tech game, and with a Noon kickoff, we decided to go casual with the tailgate this weekend. We also decided to get up early on Saturday and make the 3 hour drive instead of heading up Friday night and finding a hotel room. Nothing like a 6:00 am wake up call of Sage yelling, "It's GAME DAY!" to get ones blood flowing.
Trying to go a little healthier than the eggs and bacon we usually have for breakfast, we had homemade fruit salad, assorted pastries, and some organic cheddar cheese. If we broke out a bottle of Chardonnay, you might think we were in Charlottesville instead of Blacksburg.

Here's Sage enjoying the light breakfast. Temperature at tailgate time (9:30 am) was around 55 degrees, but it warmed up to the mid 70's during the game, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We've been lucky with the weather so far this year. Four games, and not a rain drop anywhere in sight.

Skipper, the ceremonial cannon of the Corps of Cadets, is loaded and ready to blow. The Corps lets a blast rip right after the National Anthem, and then heads outside the stadium to shoot off a shot after every Hokie score.

We were lucky enough to get another flyover for this game, this time one of my favorites: A B-2 Stealth Bomber. Looking like something out of a science fiction movie, the Stealth is almost completely silent as it speeds by.

Final score: VT 17, UNC 10. Once again our offense didn't look too great, but our defense played pretty well (until the 4th Quarter, anyway). Next week will be much tougher, with a visit to the 2nd Death Valley we've been to this year: Clemson. (LSU's stadium is also known as Death Valley.) With 4 home games in the month of September, and 3 in a row, it'll be nice to get a bit of a break from traveling. The next home game will be Oct. 25 against Boston College, but the next game we go to will be in 2 weeks when we travel to Duke...about 10 minutes down the road. It's been a funny season so far: We're 4-1, ranked in the top 15, but most of the time we look like a 6-6 ball club. And we could easily finish 5-7, or we could win the conference. Every week is an adventure!
